Principal’s Message

Hello Mighty Hawk Parents and Students,

Our students are all set to bring in their own devices on a daily basis. I respectfully ask for your support as we navigate these new beginnings at Harlingen South. I am proud to be part of a district that takes the responsibility for providing your daughter or son with a first class education with such tenacity.

PSAT school day is on October 23rd 2024 and SAT school day is on October 30th 2024. I want to take some time to encourage parents to partner up with us by having your daughter or son practice during some time at home. While I assure you that your child is receiving a first-class education at Harlingen South, I do want to also give emphasis to the importance of preparing and practicing on their own time as well. There are a lot of preparation materials out there and lessons that can be reviewed with teachers. However, I also wanted to emphasize Khan Academy. Khan Academy offers more than 5,000 free instructional videos and interactive lessons. Kahn Academy offers a teaching approach, known as “mastery learning,” this allows each student to master a skill at his or her own pace before moving on to the next level.

We are soon to embark on PSAT school day and I also wanted to let you know about two recognition programs offered through college board. In order to have your daughter or son become eligible to become a college board National Recognition Program they must take the Fall PSAT/NMSQT (10th or 11th) or Spring PSAT (10th) and score in the top 10% of test takers from their award program in the state. They must also have earned a cumulative GPA of B+ or higher (at least 3.3) by the time of submission. This program is offered through the Big Future College Board program. You may click on this link to gather more information.

There is also the National Merit Scholar Program, the program also recognizes students that perform exceptionally well on their PSAT. You may gather more information about this program by clicking here.

Thank you for partnering with us to make the most of your child’s education.

Regards,

Fernando Reyes
