Principal’s Message
Parents and Students,
First of all, thank you for a great first week of school. Please know that we are fully committed to giving your child a first-class education.
I want to say a few things about issues plaguing today’s teenagers nationwide. Recently, we have read about a rise in vapes in public schools. While we respect everyone’s differences and opinions, the fact is vaping and possessing vapes is strictly prohibited in public schools. I want to encourage you today to talk to your students about avoiding vapes and not bringing them to school. I promise you we offer first-class education, and the best way to get that education is to stay away from vapes that could ultimately remove students from campus for an extended period of time.
We also want to encourage you to attend coffee with the principal, which are held every month. Coffee with the principal is an opportunity for the administration to connect with parents and talk about all things related to their student’s education. It's also an opportunity for us to get to know you and what can be done to make our school a better place. We have no other goal other than making Harlingen South the premier high school in the Rio Grande Valley.
A friendly reminder that this coming Monday is the last day for our students to turn in their schedule change form. Also, this is a friendly reminder that we dress for success at Harlingen South. We ensure that all our students are in the dress code. Some of the common ones are leggings, yoga pants, ripped jeans three inches above the knee, and ensuring that students have no facial hair below the lip line. Well-groomed mustaches are allowed.
As some parents may know, Harlingen South has a strong academic reputation, and we strive to allow all our students to capitalize on all the class time they can get. We ask that all parents and guardians have their students arrive no later than 8 a.m. This way, we can make sure students have a chance to get breakfast and get to class on time. We have a simple tardy consequence system to ensure we have students on time. Remember, here at Harlingen South, we strive for every student to graduate confident and excited about their future by providing them with a first-class education.
Regards,
Fernando Reyes
