Principal’s Message
Hello Mighty Hawk Parents,
We have had a great start to students bringing in their own devices, and almost all the students on campus now bring their own school-issued devices on a daily basis. Here are a few key things we need support from our parents on. Remind students to charge their devices each night from the port located on the case and not on the iPad itself. This way, students are charging both their iPads and their keyboards. Secondly, remind your students that they must be logged in with their HCISD student credentials and not their school credentials. We are able to see which students are not logged into the proper Apple credentials and will need to call in these students to get this corrected.
I also wanted to let parents know that our teachers were just trained on the best practices surrounding using Apple devices directly from Apple. And as such, our teachers will be rolling out “Apple Classroom” to all our students this week. We ask that all students participate in Apple Classroom as it is the best way to keep them learning collaboratively and using the most modern practices. With this, we are able to monitor students’ activity on the device, and it is imperative that all students support the teachers in making this a reality.
Lastly, our homecoming parade is just a few weeks away. I want to invite all the parents, students, and community members to participate. You may find more information in this week’s newsletter. Our homecoming dance has been adjusted to make sure that Band, Southern Stars, and Speech & Stage students have a chance to participate as well.
We are thankful to partner with our parents to make sure your children continue to receive a first-class education. I assure you that we workday in and day out to add educational value that translates to real-world benefits after graduation.
Regards,
Fernando Reyes

AFJROTC
17 South Texas Air Force JROTC Cadets Conquer B.O.S.S.
On Saturday, September 21, a team of 17 exceptional Air Force JROTC cadets from Harlingen High School South, Abraham Cano Academy, and Harlingen School of Health Professions volunteered their time at Bentsen State Park. They were part of the B.O.S.S. (Bentsen Outdoor Skills Showcase) event, where they shared their expertise in outdoor skills with kids and adults from the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
From camp craft and orienteering to survival techniques and camp cooking, the cadets demonstrated a wide range of outdoor skills. Their leadership, critical thinking, and public speaking abilities were on full display as they engaged participants from all ages and backgrounds.
These talented cadets represent the best of South Texas' Air Force JROTC programs. Their dedication, teamwork, and passion for outdoor adventure make them truly the "BOSS" of B.O.S.S.

Our Student Council proudly represented Harlingen South at Boggus this past Friday for our “Gold Out” football game against Brownsville Rivera.
Harlingen High School South Student Council Officers were honored to attend our first 2024-25 District 16 meeting held at Nikki Rowe High School in McAllen Tuesday evening, September 24. The theme for this meeting was western wear. Harlingen CISD was represented by Student Council officers/members from HHSS, HHS, and CFA. This experience greatly benefited our officers as they met and connected with other Student Council members from the RGV.
Career and Technology Education
The MACA Officers had a chance to attend the South Texas International Film Festival Student Day in Edinburg. They met Valente Rodriguez, known for his role as “Ernie Cardenas”, in the sitcom “George Lopez” show. STXIFF also had several workshops for the students to learn about the film industry.
